Last week was the announcement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as winners of the 2020 Presidential election. As I listened to their victory speeches I was relieved to hear conscious and powerful words of unity, healing, togetherness, compassion, and possibility. What I loved most though, as I scrolled through the posts on my social media feed, was the number of posts I saw along the lines of, “no matter who you voted for, let’s not let that divide us any longer.” So many people are ready to reunite and shift their attention to the well-being and prosperity of ALL Americans.
There has been a lot of external noise coming at us, from all different angles, and with all kinds of messages, for a very long time. This noise has caused us to lose touch with our own voice, perspectives, and purpose. We’ve gotten lost in the incessant posts of social media, the absorption of biased news stories, and in the consumer mentality that our worth lies in the ongoing acquisition of wealth and material things. We have, in so many ways, lost touch with what is truly meaningful and purposeful in our lives. The other day I listened to a beautiful and inspiring podcast by Rha Goddess, as she was promoting her new book, The Calling. During the interview she referred to the pandemic as a sacred pause, meaning an opportunity to recenter and realign with who we authentically are. She offered 3 invitations, which I now extend to you, which were to come home to yourself, get your house in order, and realign with your true self.
Although this pandemic has certainly provided a lot of various challenges for many people, in many ways, it has also provided an opportunity for stillness, reflection, and restoration. We are all called to stop the noise, peel back the layers of self-doubt and uncertainty, and firmly step into our authentic truths.
The path ahead is one of healing, not only of our nation but of ourselves because all change must start from within. This means a lot of unlearning might need to take place and a shift in our paradigm of perspective might need to happen. However, learning to know, love, and appreciate ourselves and our uniqueness allows us to love and appreciate the beautiful differences and uniqueness of others, which is the only path to unity.
It is time to transform the limiting and damaging mindsets of “us versus them” so we can open our hearts to the compassion, understanding, and acceptance of who we are as a collective and restore our belief in the powerful virtue of humanity.
The paths we’ve walked, the challenges we’ve faced and the obstacles we’ve overcome have shaped who we are and how we can meaningfully contribute to the restoration of our selves, our nation, and our world. I look forward to seeing the beautiful changes we can make together.
Because now is when the real work begins the hard work, the necessary work, the good work, the essential work to save lives, and beat this epidemic. To rebuild our economy, so it works for working people. To root out systemic racism in our justice system and society. To combat the climate crisis. To unite our country and heal the soul of our nation.
