Cultivating Healthy Habits With Our Students

A healthy habit is a repeated positive behavior that boosts your well-being. Helping our students understand how to cultivate healthy habits is important at any age or grade level. There is a huge connection between our students’ well-being and their ability to focus in class, learn new content, and retain information.

Please find our free elementary resources related to Creating Healthy Habits for Kids included with this article. Click here for an infographic explaining various types of healthy habits for kids and click here for a corresponding worksheet activity. Educator's Resource For Social and Emotional Learning

Explain the concept of emotions with an emphasis on “motion.” Emotions are a part of life. They are what make us connect to the experiences we have. However, they are constantly changing based on our mood and what is occurring.  It is important to not get attached to an emotion or carry it with you for too long because soon it will change.

Picture People

Participants will create a “postcard” of themselves via photography or
mixed media. They will then create and list 5-
10 critical thinking questions, which examine and describe the portrait, on the reverse side of the card. Participants will be asked to trade the cards with a partner and answer the questions listed on the card. The entire group will then conduct a compare and contrast dialogue.
