Greetings to you all. Know My World has been incubating a bit over the past couple of months while we’ve been in transition, but I promise you we haven’t stopped working. New resources are being developed and new ideas for expansion are being explored, so that we can continue to move forward with serving you, our community of amazing educators. Part of this exploration is the addition of an online, cohort style teacher training program. We have been surveying our past participants, as well as additional educators in the field, asking for valuable input. The data from this survey will help us determine how best to move forward with the development aspect.
We have determined this training to be a valuable addition because we understand that while the expectations to incorporate more cultural interactions as well as social and emotional standards in the classroom has been increasing, this expectation can have both amazing and potentially harmful outcomes on the students. It’s not always easy for teachers to address these concepts with their students, especially if they haven’t been trained in how to do so. These concepts can be very sensitive, and if they aren’t discussed and explored safely, they can actually have a negative impact.
We want teachers to feel comfortable and confident in implementing these concepts with their students. The purpose of this training is to provide information and research based evidence on the value and impact of incorporating topics related to SEL in your classroom. We will also include resources, activities, reflections and support through conference discussions with fellow educators around the world and Know My World facilitators.
If you would like to contribute to our survey, we welcome and greatly appreciate your input. You can find the survey here and it will take about 15 minutes of your time. We want our program to be valuable, relevant to you, and easily applicable, because we know your time is precious. Your input will guide us in that process.
As always, we are incredibly grateful to you all for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing our progress with you.
Warm Regards,
Genevieve Murphy
