Ed Tech: Flipgrid

By Alicia Rescigno, Director of Educational Coordination, Know My World

Many teachers are beginning to use virtual exchange in the classroom and are looking for a platform that is easy to use and manage. If you are a teacher looking for a platform to connect your students with partners in the world in asynchronous time give Flipgrid a try.

Flipgrid is a social platform where users communicate entirely through video. The platform is so easy to use, especially for educators, students or the general public who are not as tech savvy. To use the platform, you must sign-up for an account. A free account gives you access to Flipgrid, but a paid subscription will provide more features.

When you create an account you can ask others to collaborate with you and upload their own videos. Communication via video can also be fun. As you record a Flipgrid video, you can add stickers, drawings and icons to creatively illustrate your point. Once a video is uploaded, Flipgrid provides flexibility in communicating and collaborating together. For example, students or teachers can engage in dialogue by commenting on the videos.

If you teach younger students and you’re looking for a private platform, Flipgrid provides that option as well. Teachers can create a grid that only those with the passcode can see, so everything is private. For extra privacy, students can also opt to only use their first names in the grid.

I was just recently introduced to Flipgrid within the past few weeks and I couldn’t believe how easy it was for me to use. With my excitement of using it, I wanted to share this with many others because I also think, you will enjoy it too. So give it a chance, check it out and start your Flipgrid today!
