Both Elementary and Secondary editions are complete with rubrics and indicators to support teachers in growing students social, emotional and cultural competence. Elementary classrooms begin with foundational key indicators of Self-awareness, Openness, Sensitivity and Adaptability as applied to the student’s own context and relationships. Students begin to investigate themes that explore local and global realities including culture, stereo-typing, community, and service-learning. Educators are guided in teaching skills like multiple perspective taking, active listening, and self-reflection to support students in thinking critically about each theme and to communicate with others respectfully and effectively.

The Secondary Edition builds on these fundamental principles yet is designed for educators to use at an entry level with older students. Key indicators for secondary students are Self-awareness, Social Awareness, Intercultural Communication, Multiple Perspective Taking, and Social Responsibility. Each unit is modeled after a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal to provide a local and Global context to issues that are relevant and influential for young adults today. Through the investigation of the unit themes, students will explore concepts such as power differentials, inequality, community, sustainability, climate change, and digital activism. Activities support teachers in making connections regarding large issues and students experiences, while providing instructional strategies for dialogue, critical thinking, and action.

Every unit in the Responsible Global Citizens series produces qualitative evidence that is aligned to the key indicators for each edition. Both editions also have an assessment guide to support teachers in reviewing evidence and outcomes created from the unit activities, projects and reflections. The Know My World Evaluation Guidebooks include tips and strategies for creating formative and summative assessments including surveys and quizzes, testimonies and reflections, and portfolio review.
