Japan and Taiwan: World Peace Memorial

  • Post author:

During the spring of 2015, two elementary school classes from Japan and Taiwan collaborated on world peace by creating their own replica of the Tower of London Poppy Installation, by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper. Students researched the artist’s work, asking critical questions using a worksheet (linked here) about the piece, why it was created and what elements of design were used. Students then communicated with each other to discuss the piece and their own motivations for replication.  Both teachers asked students to make poppies of their own, partnered by a description of why they made it and who it is dedicated to.  Teachers and students shared with each other their process, reflections and created poppy gardens in their schools.
